The average person walks 5 miles a day.

But in 25000 steps (about 7.6 miles), that person only walks about 3.3 miles and is at an 8% risk of running into a tree. This is the first in a three part series where I look at the health and fitness of 25000 steps.

There are a few different ways to calculate your daily step count. All of the calculations above are the same. You add your steps in steps and divide this number by the time in minutes that you have. Most people will do this in their heads and will multiply 25000 by 3.3/8. If you do the same calculation using miles you’ll get a much lower number.

I know it sounds silly, but my wife and I put 25000 into miles and got the same result. This is why, for the sake of this series, I will always be looking to get my step count from miles. It’s the same thing and it does work.

You can also get the number from miles by multiplying the number in steps by the speed you have on your map.
